Some communities in Illinois are welcoming data centers due to the economic and workforce benefits these facilities bring. Other communities are pursuing local moratoriums on data center development in order to ensure state regulations are in place before these facilities come to their neighborhoods. Still other communities are working to pass local ordinances that regulate data centers to ensure these proposals bring more benefits than harms to the local community.
